It starts with a mission.
Councilman Mark Levis has served the Belmar community for over ten years, dedicating himself to updating our detiorating infrastructure.
Sounding the alarm early on the lack of infrastructure upgrades during a 6-month appointment to Belmar council, Councilman Levis dedicated his first full term to championing infrastructure, starting with the marina.
Under his leadership on the Harbor Commission, the Belmar marina has received its first upgrades in over a decade. With these upgrades, not only is the marina more beautiful and safer for both vessels and visitors alike, but it can also bring in more funding - critical for getting even more work done in town.
The work extends past the marina. Construction has started in Belmar to upgrade the Borough’s long-neglected water mains and roadways, starting with 5th, 8th and 14th avenues.
Councilman Levis is a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy and a formal lieutenant in the navy reserve. He volunteers as a softball coach and is a member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh. He has raised thousands of dollars for Belmar recreation through his annual Burns night suppers, while also helping to raise money for a new town softball field through the annual cornhole tournament.
He and his wife, Megan, met in Belmar and were married in St. Rose. Their three children – Molly, Morgan and Max – all attend Belmar Elementary School.
